Puro is Latin influenced House music done right. Puro sees Doug Gomez rightfully take his place alongside the likes of Antonio Ocasio and Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell as one of the few producers that creates grooves with real meaning. The NY based producer of Colombian origin has created an album that respectfully channels his roots and influences alongside modern production techniques. Like Ocasio and Claussell, Gomez understands how to use those melodies and rhythms to make the music hit just right. And Gomez knows that genuine Deepness takes this music to the next level. Puro has been released on Nervous Records and it fits well with Louie Vega’s recent project for the label, Expansions in the NYC. Gomez runs the Merecumbe Recordings imprint and in a previous music life was half of Drrtyhaze, who released funky tunes on labels like Gomma, Nang and Tirk. Even further back, Gomez A&R’d for New York House imprint Waako Records. Today, Doug Gomez is known for making Afro and Latin influenced Deep House music and this album is set to raise his profile even further. Just check the key driven grooves of the beautiful Meta Mor Fo Sis (Latin Jazz mix) or the guitar drenched vocal voyage, A Vida E´ Boa, A Vida E´ Sol. The deep and melancholic side of his production comes across on the thoughtful Rosa Blanca. Puro is a fine album.
